Mobility

There are some who question whether Derrick Brown will be able to get in the backfield consistently at the next level. This is something of a slight on a player who made such a difference in college. But it is hard to gauge just how much of an impact he can make in this area given that he was double-teamed on virtually every play with the Tigers.

One thing that has really come across when watching Brown during team drills is his mobility. His footwork has been nothing short of exemplary so far and this can be a tremendous asset to have for a defensive tackle.

Brown’s power and explosiveness off the snap is undeniable. If he can match this with fluid mobility on a consistent basis, then he is going to be incredibly difficult to stop.

Not being able to showcase what he has to offer in warmup games might be a good thing for the Carolina Panthers and their chances of surprising those who have already written off their chances. The less film that teams have regarding Brown initially, the better his chances will be of giving experienced linemen plenty to think about that they are not really expecting.

This is going to be something worth keeping a close eye on. It appears unlikely that Brown will be double-teamed as much at the pro level thanks to the presence of Short and pass-rushers such as Brian Burns. So the onus will be on the player to make the most out of this chance to prove the doubters wrong.
