3 possible Panthers trade targets from the New Orleans Saints
By Dean Jones
Tre’Quan Smith – WR
Things look incredibly promising for the Carolina Panthers at wide receiver. They are loaded with playmakers who can make things happen at the drop of a hat. And others on short-term deals further down the depth chart also come with a substantial amount of upside.
Whether these will all be brought back next year is up for debate. The Panthers also have a predicament regarding standout Curtis Samuel, who is heading into a contract season and will want top dollar if he takes another giant leap forward in 2020.
These are all future problems for Carolina’s front office to deal with. If they are in the market for reinforcements next spring, then trading for Tre’Quan Smith is an enticing possibility.
Much was expected of Smith when he entered the league as a second-round pick. Things have not gone necessarily according to plan so far for the wideout. But it is a little too soon to be giving up on his talent just yet.
Smith is always going to struggle for targets with Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Alvin Kamara, and Jared Cook on the Saints’ roster. The player is heading into the penultimate year of his rookie deal. If he cannot make strides next time around, then it might force New Orleans into exploring the possibility of getting at least some capital back in return.
