4 pleasant surprises for the Carolina Panthers at training camp
By Dean Jones
Temarrick Hemingway – TE
Things did not get off to the best of starts for Temarrick Hemingway thanks to an injury that kept him out of the early stages of training camp. The tight end has been making up for lost time in recent weeks. And it could end up with the player making the 53-man roster.
The Carolina Panthers do not have any real depth at the position behind No. 1 option Ian Thomas. Chris Manhertz will be used more as a blocking force on the edge when the opportunity arises. But Hemingway’s assured hands throughout team drills could see the player become a secondary pass-catching option.
This would be a fine achievement for Hemingway, who has found it difficult to stake a claim on a roster during his time in the NFL. He has made the most out of this latest opportunity in Carolina. But it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to get his name onto the team for their Week 1 opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Hemingway is a big body that has plenty of athleticism at his disposal. This is something that the Panthers have looked for heavily in their recruitment process this offseason. And the player could end up becoming a nice backup option, at the very least.
