Carolina Panthers No. 3: Derrick Brown embracing NFL life
Being the No. 7 overall pick comes with its own set of expectations. Derrick Brown is not exempt from this, but the defensive tackle has made an outstanding start to life at the next level.
The Carolina Panthers have been raving about their new star college recruit following a dominant period of training camp. Brown has been incredibly hard to block on the interior and has come up with plenty of big plays that have only whet the appetite further regarding his potential.
The player himself seems to be taking everything in his stride. This is the sort of character Brown is bringing to the table, and his intent to focus on business before getting back to busy family life was further highlighted in a recent interview.
"“I’d always dreamed of the moment. Finally becoming part of this organization, being able to be in that moment was awesome. A lot is going on. While I’m at work I’m present. I’m following my duties. But also when I’m at home, I’m a father, fiancé — I have a lot of roles. It’s definitely important for me to be where my feet are because it’s obviously important for me to get my work done and take it home with me, but also be there for my family, too. “We love those days ( team drills) because it’s what we do. We play football. All the other stuff is an added bonus. Lining up and being able to play, that’s definitely the base of how we do our business. It’s been a long time. First one’s here in North Carolina, and I’m excited to be able to just be able to do that.”"
There is not much that Brown cannot do on the field. His tandem with Kawann Short could completely transform the Panthers’ run defense in 2020. If the highly-touted rookie hits the ground running, then we could be in for something truly special.
