The Carolina Panthers are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing in a defensive back via trade before the season, but which players should they target?

The Carolina Panthers are reportedly looking for reinforcements in their secondary ahead of the 2020 season. This is a concerning area of the field against some exceptional passing attacks on the schedule, which has only been heightened by some substantial changes across the board.

Cornerback trio James Bradberry, Ross Cockrell, and Javien Elliott were not brought back by the Carolina Panthers during free agency in a bid to go younger and more athletic. The organization could not match the offer their former No. 1 option got from the New York Giants anyway. But according to Joe Person of The Athletic, the front office is making calls to other NFL teams for possible trade options after deciding more will probably be needed next season.

It is hard not to be a little perturbed by this latest turn of events. We are now less than two weeks away from Carolina’s season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. So if they do decide to bring in another veteran, he will need to pick up the scheme incredibly quickly.

That might be easier said than done, especially at such a crucial point in the preparation period. If general manager Marty Hurney gets this wrong, then the murmurings of discontent will grow even greater after an offseason of unprecedented player movement.

This is a situation worth monitoring closely with the Panthers, without question. Here are four possible cornerback trade targets to consider if they choose to go in this direction.
