Carolina Panthers camp stock-watch: Troy Pride Jr. – CB (UP)

Troy Pride Jr. had an impressive week at training camp. The cornerback is making his presence felt in no uncertain terms during his first taste of NFL experience. And this could lead to the rookie getting a significant role in the starting rotation in 2020.

A few eyebrows were raised when the Carolina Panthers waited until the fourth round to take a cornerback. Pride Jr. has an exceptional skill set to call upon and from the outside looking in, it appears he has made a smooth transition to the next level.

The former Notre Dame speedster has looked the part during team drills, coming up with big plays consistently. Pride Jr. has also held his own participating in one-on-one battles against some high caliber wide receivers on the roster. All this bodes well for his chances of making an impact from the word go.

Pride Jr. is bound to go through his fair share of growing pains during his first year in a professional environment. Cornerback is one of the areas where rookie players tend to struggle more than most. But getting competitive experience over a prolonged period is going to do wonders for the incoming prospect’s long-term aspirations.

Whether Pride Jr. has done enough to become a day one starter remains to be seen. He has worked with the first unit plenty this week, and he has made the most of Eli Apple missing time through injury.
