Carolina Panthers camp stock-watch: Chris Manhertz – TE (UP)
One player who has been catching the eye during the last week at training camp is Chris Manhertz. The tight end looks set to be the No. 2 option behind breakout candidate Ian Thomas. And his performances during team drills are a further indication of what the player can offer.
Manhertz has come up with some nice catches that have the Carolina Panthers encouraged regarding his prospects to make a difference in the red zone. His blocking prowess is well-known and respected, so if he can become a more prolific weapon in the passing game, it is going to assist the team considerably.
This is a nice security blanket to fall back on if things do not go according to plan with Thomas, at the very least. With so many concerns surrounding Carolina’s offensive line heading into the season, Manhertz’s ability to protect on the edge is going to be another substantial boost to the Panthers’ chances going forward.
It is a big year incoming for Manhertz. He is heading into the final year of his deal and will need to prove his worth when he sees the field in whatever situation that presents itself. The former Canisius standout is experienced enough to know what is at stake and is sure to relish the challenge if his contribution at camp is any indication.
