Carolina Panthers player No. 1: Jordan Scarlett – RB

Jordan Scarlett was unable to make the most out of the opportunities that came his way with the Carolina Panthers. The running back was aiming to become the primary backup behind All-Pro Christian McCaffrey in 2020. But he failed to deliver on his promise.

This was incredibly frustrating for the Panthers, who allocated a fifth-round pick to acquire Scarlett in 2019. He did not see much of the field during his rookie campaign and it did not take long for the coaching staff to move on from the back during training camp.

Scarlett was waived to make room for kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik. That tells us everything about the impression he failed to leave on a coaching staff that had no emotional attachment to him from a draft perspective.

The writing was on the wall for Scarlett early on. Mike Davis has made a significant impression that almost guarantees his place on the roster. Couple this with Reggie Bonnafon’s production and the pickup of Trenton Cannon from the waiver wire, and it is not hard to see why the former Florida Gator was surplus to requirements.

The player is currently still looking for a new home. This is an incredibly disappointing outcome for Scarlett and the Panthers. But he only has himself to blame.
