Carolina Panthers trade target No. 2: Chris Banjo – Cardinals

If the Carolina Panthers are after more depth at the safety position ahead of the new season, then someone like Chris Banjo might come into the equation. The veteran recently signed a one-year, $1.18 million extension with the Arizona Cardinals after impressing during his first year with the franchise. But a tempting offer could see them trade a player who might find starting opportunities limited behind Budda Baker.

Banjo has been a solid if not spectacular player during his NFL career than has spanned three teams. He is no stranger to the Panthers having spent time with their NFC South rival New Orleans Saints in recent years. And he is an intriguing option if Carolina chooses to go with additional reinforcements as reported.

The former SMU standout has been a nice complementary piece without ever doing enough to secure a prominent starting role. That might be all the Panthers are looking for at this stage thanks to the big impression Juston Burris has made at training camp. And it is unlikely the player would cost the earth in terms of compensation.

Carolina lost plenty of established veterans this offseason. Banjo would provide an assured presence to lean on both during in-game situations and within the locker room.
