3 hurdles Robby Anderson must overcome with the Panthers in 2020
By Dean Jones
Character concerns?
There is the issue of Robby Anderson’s previous character concerns to take into consideration when looking at possible challenges the player needs to overcome. The Carolina Panthers did their due diligence on the player before signing him in free agency. And nobody will know more about his traits on and off the field than his former college coach Matt Rhule.
Anderson was arrested twice in less than a year in 2017 and 2018. He was cleared of all charges against him, but this might have been something of a red flag for teams looking at the player this spring.
Whether this will become a problem in Carolina is highly debatable. Anderson seems to have turned a corner in this regard barring the odd outburst of frustration on the sidelines with the New York Jets. However, given the inept quarterback play from Sam Darnold and others, one can give him a pass on this.
This is a relatively young roster that the Panthers will be working with. Anderson is one of the more experienced players on offense, so it is important that he leads by example and becomes a keen motivator to others around him.
A fresh start in a new environment might be just what Anderson needs to reach his ceiling. The Panthers are banking on him to bring something different next season, and the sky is the limit is everything clicks into place right away.
