Carolina Panthers player No. 2: Cam Phillips – WR

The Carolina Panthers have some injury concerns at the wide receiver position. They lost Keith Kirkwood and Omar Bayless to the injured reserve list after both required surgery. And Seth Roberts has spent a considerable period on the sidelines with a concussion.

This has forced the Panthers to bring in some other reinforcement to provide competition during training camp. One such player is Cam Phillips, who is another former XFL star who will now get the chance to make a name for himself in the NFL.

The Charlotte native formed a close bond with Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker during their together with the Houston Roughnecks. This resulted in Phillips leading all XFL receivers with 31 receptions, 455 yards, and nine touchdowns before the league disbanded.

Phillips was a standout at Virginia Tech before landing on the Buffalo Bills after going undrafted in 2018. He appeared in two games for the AFC East team. But the wideout will be hoping that his familiarity with Walker might be enough to get on the roster in a short space of time.

That might be easier said than done given the wealth of options available to the Panthers. What comes next will be up to Phillips, but time is of the essence.
