Carolina Panthers decision No. 3: What to do with Jeremy Chinn?

Jeremy Chinn is a hot prospect that comes to the Carolina Panthers with some lofty expectations on his shoulders. The organization thought enough of the player to move back into the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and acquire his services. And there appears to be plenty of hope regarding the former Southern Illinois standout making a lasting impression from the word go.

Just where that is going to be on the field remains to be seen. Chinn has stated his desire to become a defensive weapon rather than be tagged with one position. But finding where the rookie can make the most out of his outstanding skill set is something that Matt Rhule will need to get right once competitive action gets underway.

Chinn has been used almost everywhere on the backend and the second level during camp. The Panthers are also looking at the possibility of putting him alongside Shaq Thompson, which is another intriguing element to consider.

We will probably see Chinn line up in multiple positions early on. With no preseason games to get a good look, this will be a trial and error case for Carolina’s coaching staff before they come to a formal conclusion regarding where the first-year player can do the most damage.

This a nice problem to have for the Panthers. Matt Rhule has a big decision to make regarding where to put Chinn on the field, and hopefully, it will bring instant production from an individual with an exceptionally high ceiling.
