Biggest Surprise: Myles Hartsfield – DB/RB

There was little in the way of expectations surrounding Myles Hartsfield heading into training camp. The undrafted free-agent was given a chance to prove himself by the Carolina Panthers and he took full advantage.

Hartsfield was making plays during team drills almost every day. The defensive back held his own against even the most talented wide receivers on the Panthers’ roster and saw him surge up the depth chart in no time at all.

Having versatility is a key component of any player in Carolina heading into the 2020 season. The more ways you can help the team, the better. And this was another massive factor in Hartsfield eventually winning a place on the 53-man roster.

The player was also given plenty of reps at running back. This proved to be the making of him and is another way he caught the eye.

Whether this is going to make a transition to the field in a competitive setting is uncertain. There have been no preseason games for Hartsfield to further acclimatize himself to the next level. But it would be a surprise if the former Ole Miss standout was part of the rotation, at least initially.

This would allow Hartsfield to develop at his own pace and make a contribution on special teams, which is probably the best way to go with the rookie at this juncture.
