Julian Stanford – OLB
Another surprising inclusion on the 2020 roster is Julian Stanford. The versatile linebacker was one of the latest arrivals to training camp. But he made the most out of this opportunity with the Carolina Panthers in a short space of time.
Stanford promises to offer a tremendous amount to the Panthers after becoming a strong part of the rotation with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills throughout his career. Whether he can transition this to Carolina is up for debate, so the player needs to build on this early momentum on the field.
His contribution on special teams is another notable feature of his game that swung things in Stanford’s favor. The player turned in some accomplished displays for the Bills in 2019 on his way to a 66.6 grade from Pro Football Focus and this is an area that does have some depth concerns.
This was a low risk, high reward pickup by the Panthers at the time of signing and it could end up being a masterstroke by the coaching staff. Stanford’s production in a limited role has been there for all to see during his career and there is nothing to suggest he could not take his game to a new level entering his prime years.
