Stat predictions for 5 Panthers players on offense in Week 1
By Dean Jones
Teddy Bridgewater – Carolina Panthers QB
- 25/34 pass attempts, 289 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions.
All eyes will be on Teddy Bridgewater as he takes his first snaps for the Carolina Panthers. The quarterback will be under the microscope more than most as he tries to fill the enormous void left by Cam Newton. But he might find it tough going against a strong Raiders’ pass-rush.
Bridgewater has been accurate throughout his career. But his mobility remains a concern following the serious leg injury that almost cost the former first-round pick his career.
There is little doubt he represents an upgrade over anything Carolina had under center in 2019. And his previous knowledge of Joe Brady’s planned scheme is something else that shouldn’t be overlooked as Bridgewater aims to hit the ground running.
The Panthers will be counting on their signal-caller to provide consistent distribution to their outstanding weapons at wide receiver. Christian McCaffrey’s presence in the backfield should give Bridgewater plenty of chances to shine in the passing game. But having no preseason games to develop chemistry could cause some complications early on.
Everything is in place for Bridgewater to succeed providing he gets the necessary protection. The Raiders will look to get the Louisville product on the move, so getting the ball out quickly will be imperative on his way to a nice stat line on debut.
