Jeremy Chinn – Carolina Panthers DB/OLB

Expectations are through the roof regarding Jeremy Chinn after a standout display at training camp. The Carolina Panthers made a bold move to trade back into the second round and take the former Southern Illinois standout and it could be a shrewd move by the organization if the do-it-all defender reaches his ceiling.

Chinn’s versatility is something that no doubt enamored him to the Panthers’ coaching staff, who looked for this in almost every new recruit during the offseason. Although his time in college was spent primarily at safety, he was listed as the joint-starter at outside linebacker on Carolina’s unofficial depth chart alongside Jermaine Carter ahead of their opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.

This might mean that Chinn will be tasked with covering prolific tight end Darren Waller, which would be a significant baptism of fire for the rookie. There is also the option of defensive coordinator Phil Snow using a three-safety set in obvious passing situations, which could also benefit the Panthers.

Chinn is confident that he can become the defensive weapon Carolina is looking for following the retirement of Luke Kuechly. That is a high ceiling to aim for, but the player has all the physical attributes needed to forge a successful career at the next level.
