3 ways the Carolina Panthers can stop Bucs’ QB Tom Brady
By Dean Jones
Pressure, pressure, and more pressure
One of the big factors that can stop Tom Brady is pressure. The veteran quarterback is a little more uncertain in the pocket with pass-rushers flying at him giving his advancing age. But significant improvements need to be made in this area compared to their contribution in Week 1.
The defensive front was surprisingly unable to penetrate the Raiders’ stout protection consistently despite lofty expectations going into the contest. Las Vegas’ line is one of the best in the business. But there are some weaknesses for the Bucs that the Carolina Panthers might be able to exploit.
Left tackle Donovan Smith looked sluggish in their season opener at the Saints and rookie Tristan Wirfs might be a solid prospect. But his inexperience is something that could come into question with no preseason games during the preparation period.
Brady likes to get the ball out quickly. This enables him to avoid contact and prevent pass-rushers from getting the necessary ground in such a short space of time.
One cannot fault the likes of Brian Burns or Yetur Gross-Matos for explosiveness. And even though they didn’t make much of a contribution in their first outing, it would not be a shock to see either player make a more notable impact coming up against one of the greatest signal-callers of all-time.
