4 most impressive 2019 Panthers players from Week 1
By Dean Jones
Greg Olsen – Former Carolina Panthers TE
It was strange to see the Carolina Panthers take the field in Week 1 without Greg Olsen occupying the starting tight end position. The organization and the Pro Bowler went their separate ways in free agency and after contemplating retirement, he eventually signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
This gives Olsen a realistic chance of ending his career with a Super Bowl given the expectations on the Seahawks in 2020. He provided star quarterback Russell Wilson with an assured presence across the middle and his impact in the red zone made a notable difference with a big touchdown catch on debut.
Olsen brought in all four targets thrown his way during Seattle’s convincing 38-25 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The game became a shootout of sorts. But the tight end managed to come up with some crucial catches from a performance that leaves plenty of reasons to be encouraged going forward.
Keeping Olsen healthy is going to be key for the Seahawks. But if they can call on the player for the majority of the campaign then it is going to do wonders for their overall aspirations of picking up the Vince Lombardi trophy once again.
The former Panthers gained just 24 yards on four catches. But his overall grade of 71.4 from Pro Football Focus was more than deserving.
