4 most important Panthers players against the Buccaneers in Week 2
By Dean Jones
Jeremy Chinn – Carolina Panthers OLB
Another player who stood out considerably during his debut for the Carolina Panthers was Jeremy Chinn. The second-round pick was an electrifying presence after winning the start at outside linebacker. And considering this was his first taste of life at the next level thanks to no preseason games, it was a highly polished display.
Chinn did not look overawed by the occasion whatsoever. He was an assured presence at the second level and his athleticism allowed the do-it-all defender to be around the ball consistently. This included at the point of attack or even making up ground in a short space of time when another defender missed a tackle or an assignment.
The former Southern Illinois standout already looks the part and promises to be an integral part of Carolina’s defensive unit going forward. Chinn will be expected to nullify the threat of Bucs’ tight end duo Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard on Sunday, which represents another big test of resolve for the player.
This is a steep challenge, but one that Chinn should relish. He has made a significant impression during his first few weeks with the Panthers both at training camp and on the field. And the coaching staff appears confident in shouldering the player with plenty of responsibility despite his lack of experience in the NFL.
If Chinn can hold his own against the likes of Gronkowski and Howard in Week 2, then it is going to do Carolina’s chances the world of good as they look to pull off a major upset.
