4 free agents the Panthers should call after Christian McCaffrey injury
By Dean Jones
Lamar Miller
If the Carolina Panthers are looking for a proven runner to come in for Christian McCaffrey, then Lamar Miller should be high on the shortlist. The running back may have suffered some injury problems of his own. But if he can come in and make an impression from the off, it is an option worth considering.
Miller has proven capabilities when it comes to influencing NFL games. The former fourth-round pick has gone over 1,000-yards rushing twice in his career. But he missed all of the 2019 season with a serious injury that he does appear to be over.
There has been plenty of interest regarding Miller in recent weeks without anything coming from it following his release by the New England Patriots. This might increase further with so many running backs going down to injury since the campaign began and although he might cost a little more than less able players, it is not going to break the bank by any stretch of the imagination.
The last time Miller saw the field in 2018 he logged 973 rushing yards, five touchdowns, and a yards-per-carry average of 4.6. This is slightly higher than his career average of 4.3. But whether he can return to the level of old after so long out of action is highly debatable.
If the former Houston Texan can get back to his old self, then he should be able to make a contribution to the Panthers until McCaffrey is ready to make a return.
