Joey Slye – Carolina Panthers K

Joey Slye made his one and only field-goal attempt from 23 yards as well as both of his extra-point tries in Sunday’s loss.

It’ll be a tough proposition for the Carolina Panthers to move the ball against the Chargers so there may not be enough scoring for Slye to be worth a start.

Ex-Panther Harrison Butker hit two huge 50+ yard field goals on his way to 13 fantasy points. But expecting the same type of game out of Slye is risky.

Carolina Panthers Defense

This young group improved very slightly in Week 2 scoring three fantasy points, up from minus-one the previous week. The Panthers recovered a mishandled handoff from Tom Brady to Ronald Jones II,  and Donte Jackson grabbed an interception in the third quarter that helped spark a comeback. The defensive line severely missed Kawann Short and Week 1 standout Yetur Gross-Matos as they were unable to gain a sack for the second straight outing.

The Chargers have committed to Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback despite an impressive performance by rookie Justin Herbert. There’s no precedent that dictates this team will score a lot of points no matter who’s under center. But it’s hard to trust this young defense to perform well as they take their farthest road trip all season to Los Angeles.
