3 bold predictions for the Carolina Panthers in Week 3
Robby Anderson will surpass Steve Smith for most receiving yards in the first three games of a season with the Carolina Panthers.
With 349 yards, former NFL All-Pro and Panthers great Steve Smith Sr. currently holds the record for the most receiving yards through the first three games. Robby Anderson is 127 yards away from surpassing the record currently held by the future Pro Football Hall of Famer.
So far, Anderson has developed a great connection with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, which has led to more consistency. As shown with his 75-yard touchdown catch against the Raiders in Week 1, the wideout still possesses the ability to make big plays after the catch.
The Carolina Panthers may also gain more opportunities with the football if the defense can force short drives often for Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense. Los Angeles has not scored more than 20 points in either of its first two games despite leading their opponents in time of possession.
If the Panthers can control the time of possession and capitalize on opportunities with the football, there’s no reason to bet against a big yardage game for Anderson.
One more nugget, last week the Chargers secondary got absolutely smoked for a 55-yard touchdown by speedy Kansas City wideout Tyreek Hill in last week’s game. With Anderson’s comparable speed, a similar play could have him well on his way to breaking a record set by one of the greatest Panthers of all-time.
