Jalen Guyton – WR

Another inexperienced player that the Carolina Panthers should ignore at their peril is Jalen Guyton. The pacey wideout has been used sparingly by the Chargers during the first two weeks of the season. But it does appear that a breakout game might be in the offing if he gets more targets thrown his way by Justin Herbert.

Guyton has exceptional speed, even though he might be a little rough around the edges in terms of development. The wide receiver transferred from Notre Dame to North Texas due to a lack of involvement with the Fighting Irish, and this proved to be an inspired decision.

His level of production saw his draft stock rise considerably on his way to 103 receptions, 1,580 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns. This was not enough for Guyton to hear his name called during the 2019 NFL Draft, but he did manage to work his way onto the Chargers roster late in the year.

He has caught two balls for 30 yards so far this season, including a big touchown grab against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs last time out. With the Carolina Panthers paying so much attention to other prominent playmakers, there could be a real opportunity for Guyton to make more of an impression.

The Panthers have plenty of questions to answer regarding their secondary. Their cornerback group has been a pleasant surprise considering what many were expecting prior to the campaign. But their lack of production from the safety position is a problem that needs to be rectified at the earliest possible opportunity.
