Stephen Weatherly – Carolina Panthers DE

The Carolina Panthers managed to generate pressure for the first time this season at the Chargers in Week 2, but this was largely down to the outstanding performance of second-year-pro Brian Burns. The former first-round pick was in devastating form and his level of consistency is hopefully a sign of things to come.

There were slight improvements in Stephen Weatherly‘s play, which was encouraging. But there is little doubt that the Panthers are expecting a lot more from their free-agent signing.

Weatherly did manage to get his first quarterback hit of the season last weekend. However, he is still waiting for his first sack, and the longer he goes without one, the more questions will be asked regarding his long-term future with the franchise.

His three games in 2020 have resulted in a 56.7 grade from Pro Football Focus. This isn’t the worst by any stretch of the imagination and Weatherly can make his presence felt against talented right tackle Kelvin Beachum in Week 4.

The Panthers will be hoping Weatherly can start racking up more sacks and big plays in and around the backfield. Nobody can question the player’s effort so far and he does have some nice highlights. But there will now be an expectation to produce the goods after full acclimatizing to different surroundings.
