4 key matchups for the Panthers vs. Cardinals in Week 4
By Dean Jones
Russell Okung/Taylor Moton vs. Chandler Jones
Chandler Jones is one of the best around when it comes to wreaking havoc in an opposition’s backfield. He has a rare blend of size, strength, and athleticism and this was further evident in the 19 sacks the outside linebacker generated in 2019.
The Cardinals like to move Jones across the line of scrimmage a lot, so the onus will be on Russell Okung and Taylor Moton to counteract his incredible threat with the protection needed to keep the player at bay.
Moton was nothing short of phenomenal at the Chargers in Week 3. The Carolina Panthers will be paying him a significant amount of money next spring if he continues this level of consistency and a strong outing whenever he is matched up against Jones will only strengthen his position at the bargaining table.
The Panthers will be hoping that veteran left tackle Okung is fit enough to make a return to the lineup after missing Sunday’s win through injury. Greg Little and Trent Scott went through their fair share of struggles against All-Pro Joey Bosa, who made the smart move to stay away from Moton and focus on the less experienced duo.
If Okung isn’t able to go, then expect Jones to adopt a similar mindset and this would spell nothing but bad news for Carolina’s chances of coming away with their second win of the campaign.
