Keep him in the pocket

Kyler Murray is your stereotypical dual-threat quarterback that is currently all the rage in today’s NFL. If a play isn’t developing the way he likes, then the signal-caller doesn’t hesitate to take it upon himself to get the necessary yardage to make a real difference.

Given that the Carolina Panthers have had some trouble stopping the run, the last thing they will want is for Murray to get out in the open and make things happen. That is why it is imperative that they keep the 2019 No. 1 overall pick in the pocket as much as possible, which is where the sophomore tends to make the most mistakes.

Setting the edge is going to be key in this regard. Brian Burns was a standout performer at the Chargers and if they can get similar production from Stephen Weatherly, it could make things a little more difficult for Murray to have his usual impact.

The onus will also be on Shaq Thompson and Jeremy Chinn at the outside linebacker spot. Both players were fantastic in Week 3 and their task will be getting to the point of attack quickly and make their initial contact on Murray count.

Murray’s height does make it difficult for him to see over bigger defensive linemen when he’s in the pocket. The Lions made the most out of this last weekend and this is something that Phil Snow should be aiming for when its Carolina’s turn to take him on.
