3 ways the Carolina Panthers can stop Kyler Murray in Week 4
By Dean Jones
Discipline at the second level
One of the key components behind the Carolina Panthers getting an elusive first win of the season was their performance from their outside linebackers. Shaq Thompson and Jeremy Chinn were outstanding throughout at the Chargers and this is something they need to take into another sterner test this weekend against Kyler Murray.
The Cardinals quarterback is extremely athletic and any linebacker gambling on just where he is going to go will be out of luck more often than not. Murray is incredibly elusive in tight windows and has that rare ability to make plays out of nothing to further highlight his danger on almost every down.
Being disciplined on the edge is going to do the Panthers’ chances of a second straight victory the world of good. If they can avoid the silly mistakes that cost them over the first fortnight in this particular area, then it is going to make Murray think twice, at the very least.
Tahir Whitehead also needs to play a crucial role in this. He has the experience to recognize schemes and put players in the right positions. So even if his production continues to trend on a downward curve, the former Temple star can benefit his team from a communication perspective.
Murray’s talent is there for all to see. He is an early MVP candidate who has the world at his feet and stopping him is going to be a mammoth task.
