4 biggest Panthers disappointments through Week 4 of 2020 season
By Dean Jones
Seth Roberts – Carolina Panthers WR
It was always going to be tough for Seth Roberts to make his presence felt on an offense that is loaded with playmakers. That being said, his distinct lack of involvement can be classed as a disappointment.
Roberts was a free-agent signing from the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, where he did perform well during his limited time on the field. He did enough during training camp to earn the No. 4 wide receiver spot despite missing a large portion of it with a concussion. But this hasn’t yet made a smooth transition to a competitive environment.
He has had just six balls thrown his way through the first four weeks of the season, collecting four receptions for 31 receiving yards. The Carolina Panthers have plenty of mouths to feed in the passing games despite Christian McCaffrey’s absence, which has left Roberts on the outside looking in for the most part.
Offensive coordinator Joe Brady now seems to have a nice rhythm to his play-calling after taking his time to adjust to the complex world of the NFL. All that Roberts can do is keep displaying the right sort of attitude during practice and make the most out of chances when they come along. But the lack of targets coming in the player’s direction through the first quarter of the season represents a significant concern.
