Dak Prescott needs to call Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater

Dak Prescott needs to pick up the phone and call Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who knows what it’s like to come back from the brink.
Quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a devastating injury that has ended his 2020 season and possibly beyond. The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a significant blow when their star player fell awkwardly after he was tackled by Logan Ryan during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. And the severity of his predicament was evident almost instantly given the reaction of staff and players immediately following the collision.
Prescott was taken to the hospital and had immediate surgery on a compound fracture and a dislocation of his right ankle, which is going to need significant rehabilitation in a bid to get back on the field. The signal-caller faces a long road ahead of him, but the first thing he should be thinking about is picking up the phone and calling Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who knows what it’s like to come back from the brink.
How the Carolina Panthers QB can help Dak Prescott.
Bridgewater has worked incredibly hard to earn another starting opportunity in the NFL. The former first-round pick was one of the NFL’s brightest young players at the position before a freak training camp injury with the Minnesota Vikings left his aspirations in tatters.
It has been a five-year struggle for Bridgewater, who was released by the Vikings, signed by the Jets, and traded to the Saints before ending up in Carolina. This perseverance has been worth its weight in gold for the player and the Panthers if the start he’s made during the 2020 season is any indication and it should show Prescott that all hope is not lost despite this setback.
It might not seem like it now, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for one of the league’s most respected players under center.
One only has to look at Bridgewater’s level of production this season to see that. And there is further cause for inspiration that Prescott can call upon during this troubled time is seeing Alex Smith take the field for the Washington Football Team after almost losing his leg through injury two years ago.
Prescott has opened up about his issues with mental health in recent months, something which he deserves a tremendous amount of credit for. He will need more support than ever now and someone with the personality of Bridgewater can provide an additional security blanket for what is going to be a difficult few months for a player who didn’t get the lucrative deal from the Cowboys he was looking for this offseason.
The complications that come with playing on the franchise tag is something that is glaringly evident in Prescott’s situation. But it is something the player shouldn’t be dwelling on too much in the grand scheme of things.
He is going to need every ounce of energy and dedication to come back from an injury of this magnitude. It would be a shock if Dallas decided to cut their losses and let the player leave in free agency, but his hopes of earning $40 million per year in the short-term have been extinguished.
Looking at the way Bridgewater has handled himself during his rise back to prominence is something he can learn from and aim to emulate. If Prescott can do this, then he might just get back to the quarterback of old.
