2021 NFL Draft: Kawann Short and Luke Kuechly replacements secured in latest mock
By Dean Jones
No. 9: Dylan Moses (LB) – Alabama
It’s clear that Tahir Whitehead is not the answer at linebacker for the Carolina Panthers. The veteran free-agent signing has been a real weak link so far and this situation needs to be resolved at the earliest possible opportunity.
This can be done in the draft with someone like Dylan Moses, who has proven his health after recovering from a long-term injury and has all the physical attributes needed to make a significant impact at the next level.
Carolina’s linebacking corps will never be the same without Luke Kuechly, who called it a day after eight sensational seasons earlier this year. The perennial All-Pro might have a say in this process after accepting a position in the Panthers’ front office. And Moses is sure to be high on their shortlist.
No. 41: Jaylen Twyman (DT) – Pittsburgh
It doesn’t appear as if the Panthers are going to keep Kawann Short around due to his large contract and the player’s inability to stay healthy for a consistent period of time. They did select Derrick Brown at No. 7 overall, which has already benefitted their defensive front. But getting another young star to slot alongside him could give Carolina a core anchor to rely on for the next decade.
Twyman has something that Brown doesn’t possess. That is an elite passing rushing skill set on the interior that is hard to find and should complement the former Auburn sensation considerably in this scenario.
