2021 NFL Draft: Kawann Short and Luke Kuechly replacements secured in latest mock
By Dean Jones
No. 73: Jalen Mayfield (OT) – Michigan
The Carolina Panthers have gotten some solid production from their offensive line so far this season. This is especially evident on the edge with Taylor Moton and Russell Okung, who are at the top of their game during their time on the field.
However, both players are on the final year of their deals and although the Panthers should move heaven and earth regarding Moton’s extension, there appear to be some questions surrounding Okung’s long-term future with the franchise.
Jalen Mayfield is an excellent prospect who has some solid film under his belt already. He held his own against No. 2 pick Chase Young at Ohio State last season and providing he can brush up his footwork, then a strong pro career could be in the offing.
No. 104: Jaycee Horn (CB) – South Carolina
It would benefit the Panthers to get another young, exciting prospect at cornerback. They used their fourth-rounder this year on Troy Pride Jr. and they go in a similar direction here.
Rasul Douglas has probably earned another deal already. But Donte Jackson’s injury problems make it essential that Carolina has more options at their disposal.
Jaycee Horn will be no stranger to Panthers fans. The South Carolina standout has a tremendous length that enables him to be physical in coverage. But there are some kinks to his armor that includes gambling when it’s not needed.
