Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE

The Carolina Panthers have a special player in Brian Burns, there is no denying that at this point. There were some questions about his health coming into the game after missing the second half of their win at the Atlanta Falcons. But he answered this with a commanding display on the line of scrimmage once again.

Burns might not have gotten much pressure on Nick Foles in the first half, which was to be expected after missing most of practice this week. Things picked up for the 2019 first-round pick after the break, which coincided with the Panthers improving an untold amount defensively.

It didn’t fill up the stat sheet, but it was none the less impressive.

The former Florida State standout did have three quarterback hits to go along with three tackles, which is solid production when one considers these all came after the break. Carolina will need even more from Burns going forward with Kawann Short and Yetur Gross-Matos on the sidelines, who were both sorely missed against the Bears.

Carolina’s roleplayers around Burns who were tasked with more playing time due to Short and Gross-Matos’ absences were hit and miss. Whether more reinforcements will be sort or not is up for debate, but someone needs to step up and take some of the attention away from their premier edge defender.
