David Njoku’s value will never be lower

Although the Browns will probably tell any would-be suitor otherwise, there will never be a better time to get good value where David Njoku is concerned. The player did have his fifth-year option picked up earlier this offseason. But his chances of carving out a prominent role in their offense has diminished significantly thanks to Austin Hooper’s growing influence.

The Carolina Panthers should be at the front of the queue if the Browns grant his wish. There could be plenty of interest in Njoku, which would likely increase any compensation package via trade. But having an unhappy individual in the locker room is something that might hamper Cleveland’s chances of mounting a postseason push in the coming weeks.

Njoku is one of the best pass-catchers around when he is in the mood. Getting consistency out of the player has been something of a problem, and there is also the factor of his health to consider when examining just how much the Panthers or another team would be willing to give up.

That being said, if the Browns are willing to accept a mid-rounder for Njoku, then it is an opportunity too good to turn away. The former Miami standout will see his base salary increase to just over $6 million in 2021, which is the final year of his deal. But if everything finally clicks into place, the Panthers could have a real player on their hands.
