Chris Reed – Carolina Panthers OG

The Carolina Panthers have gotten some nice production out of Chris Reed since he came off the reserve/COVID-19 list and was slotted into the starting lineup. However, the offensive guard didn’t carry on this form against a Chicago defensive line that was nothing short of sensational.

This was something that was prominent across most of Carolina’s protection, barring another tremendous display from right tackle Taylor Moton. But Reed’s lack of ability to cope under some concerted pressure did stand out as one of the game’s real disappointments.

Little was expected of Reed coming into the season. He has worked hard in difficult circumstances to make an unlikely starting position his own. But the NFL is a what have you done for me lately league and if the player turns in another performance in this manner next weekend at the Saints, it will come with a probable benching in favor of former sixth-round pick Dennis Daley, who was once again inactive due to ongoing injury concerns.

Carolina’s offensive line has been one of the bright spots through six weeks of the season, and it is unlikely they’re going to be tasked with a front with the force across the board in Chicago consistently. How they respond during a crunch NFC South matchup will be crucial and this bears more significance in Reed’s case.
