New York Jets

The Jets are an absolute mess, there is nothing more to say on the matter. Head coach Adam Gase has clearly lost the locker room and the moves being made off the field are almost as bad as the performances on it.

There doesn’t appear to be any way back for Gase, who should already be looking for work. The trail of destruction he’s left behind is going to be a significant challenge to bring around. But there is one reason why this might be a job that Joe Brady considers.

Trevor Lawrence.

The Clemson quarterback is the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft barring injury, and the Jets are in pole position to win the “Tank for Trevor” sweepstakes.

Brady will know plenty about Lawrence having come up against the signal-caller with LSU during the National Championship game last season and would no doubt relish the prospect of working with a player who will come into the NFL with franchise-changing potential.

Even if the Jets don’t get the first pick, Sam Darnold could benefit enormously from someone like Brady at the helm. The Carolina Panthers won’t want to lose Brady, but this doesn’t possess any immediate danger to their long-term chances of success.
