Carolina Panthers Awards: Rasul Douglas – Underrated Player of the Game

Underrated players are hard to categorize as giving someone this title almost makes them overrated, out choice for this particular award for the Carolina Panthers following their Week 6 loss to the Chicago Bears is truly overlooked.

Some great defensive players never show up on the stat sheet, and that’s where you would typically put them in the overlooked category. A key player who came up big for the Panthers that fans shouldn’t take for granted is Rasul Douglas.

Douglas defended three passes Sunday, a team-high, and came up big in critical moments.

Most notably, Douglas gave the Panthers a shot at staying in the game. With less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Nick Foles looked for Allen Robinson on a big third down to possibly seal the contest, but Douglas had different plans and thwarted away the pass attempt to get Carolina’s defense off the field.

Douglas’ defensive stop was crucial in giving the Panthers offense one last chance to go down and score. The play can be easily forgotten as it’s overshadowed by Teddy Bridgewater throwing a pick shortly afterward, but the stop was huge for Carolina and was another strong indicator of just how important the cornerback is becoming to the organization.
