Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins has endured a difficult start to the 2020 season, to put it mildly. The Vikings came into the campaign with lofty expectations despite losing some key pieces during the offseason. But they head into their bye week with a 1-5 record and plenty of questions surrounding their long-term aspirations.

There are plenty of other problems in Minnesota besides the quarterback. Their defense has been nothing short of abysmal through the first six weeks of the season and if things continue as they are then it is going to be a bumpy ride for the remainder of the campaign and possibly beyond.

Cousins will shoulder most of the blame, as he has often done during his career. He has already suffered ten interceptions, which is four more than he gave up during the entire regular season in 2019.

The big problem the Vikings have is there isn’t much in the way of alternatives behind Cousins. Sean Mannion is the team’s No. 2 option and that will probably ensure the former Washington gunslinger isn’t benched unless things spiral completely out of control.

If the Vikings had pulled the trigger on Newton, it wouldn’t have impacted their salary cap much and it would also have allowed them to take Cousins out of the firing line during this difficult stretch.
