4 bombshell trades the Panthers could make before 2020 deadline
By Dean Jones
David Njoku – TE
It is evident that things are just not working out with Ian Thomas. The tight end was expected to make significant strides in the absence of Greg Olsen, who departed in free agency for the Seattle Seahawks. But he has failed to produce the good so far.
One option the Carolina Panthers do possess is bringing someone else in via the trade market. David Njoku has voiced his displeasure at the way he is being used with the Cleveland Browns and would be an intriguing proposition if the price is right.
Njoku would be a considerable upgrade on Thomas from a pass-catching perspective. Drops have been something of a concern for the former Miami standout during his career. But his supreme athletic traits coupled with an exceptional leap to grab the ball at its highest point would be a tremendous addition on offense.
This is something Carolina is probably going to address next spring, so they might explore getting ahead of the game and bringing in someone like Njoku who could help immediately, acclimatize to his new surroundings, and hit the ground running next time out.
Providing the compensation isn’t too steep, this sort of move would be a welcome one for an offense that has got next to nothing from their tight ends through six games.
