Corn Elder – Carolina Panthers CB

Corn Elder could be the one who benefits most from Rasul Douglas missing the game through injury. It’s likely that fourth-round pick Troy Pride Jr. will fill one of the starting spots even if Eli Apple is declared fit enough to go, which might see the veteran occupy the slot position against a Saints passing attack who will be without Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

This is a role that Elder is familiar with. The former Miami standout has carved out a role for himself thanks to some outstanding production when called upon, giving up eight receptions from 14 targets on his way to an eye-catching 74.8 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Elder worked hard to beat out some prominent competition for a roster spot in training camp, and it’s clear this is momentum he is putting to good use on the field. Even though quarterback Drew Brees will be without his two best wide receivers, there are plenty of others who could do damage and it will be up to the cornerback unit in Carolina to limit this in whatever way they can.

If Elder can make his presence felt with another outstanding showing against a depleted New Orleans passing attack, it will only increase his chances of a prominent role on defense even when Douglas comes back into the fold.
