Adam Trautman – TE

The New Orleans Saints made a bold move during the 2020 NFL Draft when they gave up most of their picks to acquire Adam Trautman. The tight end came into the league with a big reputation and this could be the rookie’s time to shine in the absence of Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

Jared Cook remains their primary target at the position. Trautman has been used sparingly by the Saints so far, bringing in all three of his targets for 34 receiving yards. But their lack of viable options in the passing game might force Sean Payton’s hand and make him a more prominent member of their passing attack.

This is a danger that the Carolina Panthers need to be ready for. Their linebacker corps has been largely disappointing besides the contribution made by rookie Jeremy Chinn, so if Trautman can get open at the second level then some big plays could be coming his way.

Trautman was arguably the most talented tight end prospect in the draft. New Orleans definitely thought he was, giving up four picks to the Minnesota Vikings in order to select him at No. 105 overall and this game against the Panthers might be the time we finally get to see why.
