Rasul Douglas – Carolina Panthers CB

Rasul Douglas might just be the best cover cornerback on the Carolina Panthers. The player was a late arrival in free agency after failing to make the Philadelphia Eagles’ 53-man roster and he is someone the Carolina Panthers could have done with at the Saints.

New Orleans was missing the wide receiver duo of Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. But quarterback Drew Bress still managed to pick apart Carolina’s secondary despite not throwing for more than 20 yards on any completion.

The signal-caller is a master at finding the soft spot when given protection in the pocket. The Panthers had nothing meaningful in the way of interior pass-rush on Sunday, which gave Brees all the chances he needed to keep moving the chains on third down.

Douglas would have helped enormously in this area, of that there is little doubt. The former West Virginia standout has given up 18 receptions from 30 targets this season and has come up with some outstanding plays in third-down situations to further enhance his overall influence on the roster.

His presence on the field would have made Brees think twice, at the very least. The Panthers need him off the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for their game against the Falcons to counteract the considerable threat posed by Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley.
