Carolina Panthers Awards: Mike Davis – Disappointing Player of the Game

Last week, we touched on how even though Christian McCaffrey didn’t play, he is still the most valuable Carolina Panthers player. Sadly, this week again proved the offense is in need of their All-Pro running back making a swift return that could come during their Thursday Night Football game against the Falcons.

Mike Davis had his run as the lead back, but after two weeks in a row where he failed to do much damage on the ground, the Panthers have to be excited for McCaffrey to return.

Davis simply isn’t a running back one in the NFL. He’s a strong backup to McCaffrey, but not the one you want to get most of the carries if the team wants to continue surprising people this season.

It’s hard to place Davis as the most disappointing player as when the Panthers signed him, he wasn’t ever expected to be the No. 1 option on the depth chart, even for a short stretch. But after looking strong in the beginning without McCaffrey, hopes were high that the veteran could continue to fill in nicely for the face of the franchise.

Davis’ good run was short-lived, though, and after two lackluster weeks, he finds himself as the most disappointing player for the Panthers in the Week 7 loss at the Saints.
