4 Panthers players with a point to prove vs. the Falcons in Week 8
By Dean Jones
Zach Kerr – Carolina Panthers DT
Zach Kerr was expected to have a huge say for the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. The Saints’ problems protection interior pass-rushers have been there for all to see over the last two seasons, but the free-agent signing was unable to produce the good when it mattered most.
This was a disappointment, but not the end of the world for Kerr. The defensive tackle has been largely impressive this season and has done well filling for Kawann Short, who underwent shoulder surgery recently that will keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.
That being said, if Kerr wants to make his move to the starting spot permanent, then he has to prove a point and bounce back against the Falcons. The player has missed some practice this week, but hopefully, he’ll be ready to go as the Panthers don’t have much in the way of depth behind him.
The former Delaware standout achieved one tackle from 38 percent of the defensive snaps in Carolina’s first outing versus their NFC South rival and whether he can increase this production will largely come down to how much the player wants it at this stage of his career.
Kerr’s enthusiasm and infectious personality have gone over well in the locker room. He has backed this up with a notable contribution to the team on the field, but in terms of those who have a big point to prove, then the lineman is high on the shortlist.
