5 scariest Carolina Panthers players in franchise history
By Dean Jones
Reggie White – DE
Although Reggie White might have only played just one season with the Carolina Panthers and was way past the peak of his powers. There are few who would argue he isn’t one of the scariest defensive linemen in NFL history.
The legendary figure revolutionized the defensive end position, of that there is little doubt. White’s rare blend of bulk, power, and ability to get into the backfield made him a force to be reckoned with over a 15-year career that is up there with the very best to ever do it.
Sadly White is no longer with us to enjoy the high esteem to which he is held. The Pro Football Hall of Famer died in December 2004 aged just 43 from a cardiac arrhythmia, which was a sad end for a man who will undoubtedly be remembered through the ages.
White was a frightening figure, there is nothing more to be said on the matter. He finished his career with 198 sacks and a reputation for being one of the most consistent pass-rushers of all-time.
High praise, but extremely deserving.
The player ended his career in Carolina and managed to secure 5.5 sacks despite missing the 1999 season due to retirement. Few that watched White play will ever forget it and one suspects those tackles who locked horns with him still have plenty of nightmares about their experiences.
