4 Panthers players on the hot seat at the midseason point

Tahir Whitehead – Carolina Panthers LB
Tahir Whitehead has become something of a scapegoat this season, but with good reason. The free-agent signing has simply not delivered the goods after being hand-picked to fill the void left by Luke Kuechly, whose presence on the field is missed an endless amount.
Replicating the perennial All-Pro’s form is nearly impossible. However, it is hard not to look at Whitehead’s contribution through the first half of the season and wonder why the Panthers signed him in the first place.
Whitehead has struggled in coverage his whole career, something that has made an unfortunate transition to the Panthers. But it is his lack of ability preventing runners from breaking past the second level that is the most concerning of all.
His angles to the point of attack have been lackluster, to put it mildly. And the game seems to be moving too fast for a player who came into the organization on the back of a solid campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019.
The ship has already sailed for Whitehead in relation to becoming Carolina’s starter at the position beyond this season. He is ranked among the NFL’s worst players this season by Pro Football Focus with a grade of 29.2, which is, quite frankly, what the former Temple prospect has deserved after failing to make the most out of his opportunity in Carolina.
