Carolina Panthers: Buyers and sellers guide to the 2020 trade deadline
By Dean Jones
Will the Carolina Panthers be buyers?
There does appear to be some speculation surrounding the Carolina Panthers and a possible move at the 2020 trade deadline. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that some calls may have been made for help on their front seven, particularly at the middle linebacker spot.
This makes a ton of sense. Tahir Whitehead has been a real disappointment and his level of play is something that has really hurt the Panthers in crucial moments of close games.
His long-term future with the franchise appears bleak. So if Carolina can bring in another veteran that can assist in the short-term at the right price, then they would be foolish not to pull the trigger.
They might also be looking for help on their defensive line. The Panthers are without the services of Kawann Short and Yetur Gross-Matos due to injury, which has tested their threadbare depth and played a leading role in the unit struggling to get consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Brian Burns is sensational, but he cannot do it alone.
If there was another position that needed instant improvements, it would be at tight end. The high hopes surrounding Ian Thomas before the season began now seem like a distant memory and if the Panthers offense wants to get themselves to a completely different level, then a better pass-catching option should be sought.
