Projections for top Panthers players on offense at midseason point
By Dean Jones
Christian McCaffrey – Carolina Panthers RB
- 950 rushing yards
- 12 touchdowns
- 1,400 all-purpose yards
Much will depend on just how Christian McCaffrey‘s ankle injury has healed. But the Carolina Panthers are counting on their face of the franchise to step in and immediately make a contribution between now and the end of the campaign.
There is every chance McCaffrey can do this, even though he might not get the same volume of touches he’s used to. The Panthers will want to be cautious with little in the way of expectations on their shoulders in 2020 and it might even result in the former first-round pick becoming equally as effective thanks to the outstanding weapons Carolina possesses in the passing game.
The All-Pro couldn’t be coming back at a better time given the Panthers’ recent struggles. But putting too much on his plate is a possible decision that might come back to haunt them.
Mike Davis – Carolina Panthers RB
- 590 rushing yards
- 4 touchdowns
- 1,000 all-purpose yards
Mike Davis has done more than enough to ensure he is still given a role in the offense even when McCaffrey is ready to return. The Carolina Panthers got some nice production out of their primary backup that played a leading role during a three-game winning run and although things have tailed off since for the player, it doesn’t detract from what a considerable impact he’s made in a short space of time.
Having a one-two punch in the backfield can only help the Panthers. Davis has proven capable of gaining hard yards between the tackles and has also given Teddy Bridgewater a nice security blanket in the passing game this season.
