Vic Beasley – OLB

Vic Beasley‘s move to the Tennessee Titans didn’t pan out as both parties expected. The linebacker struggled to make the sort of impression needed and the organization opted to cut their losses and release the veteran this week.

This would be an enticing option for the Carolina Panthers in a definite position of need. Rookie Jeremy Chinn has been a revelation at the second level through the first half of the campaign, but the same cannot be said of Tahir Whitehead and Shaq Thompson.

The experienced duo has struggled to make the sort of impression required, which has left plenty of speculation surrounding their long-term aspirations in Carolina beyond this season. This is especially disappointing in Thompson’s case, with the former first-round pick making bold claims before competitive action began about his desire to become the team’s defensive lynchpin following Luke Kuechly’s retirement.

Beasley is no stranger to the Carolinas having played his college football at Clemson, where he stood out considerably on his way to becoming the No. 8 overall pick in 2015. The player hasn’t quite lived up to the form of his sophomore campaign that resulted in 15.5 sacks with the Atlanta Falcons, but he did notch eight quarterback takedowns last season before his move to Tennessee.

The Panthers are getting next to no pass-rush from their outside linebackers. Beasley would instantly fix this and he would be coming in with a big point to prove.
