Dennis Daley – Carolina Panthers OL

Dennis Daley has gone through his fair share of injury problems this season. The offensive lineman missed a large part of the campaign that derailed his attempts to earn a starting position at guard. But what has happened over the last fortnight throws even more shade on his chances of forging a successful career with the Carolina Panthers.

The player did start one contest in Week 7 at the New Orleans Saints, but he has since been dropped in preference for Chris Reed, who appears to be a weak link in Carolina’s protection if his outing against the Atlanta Falcons was any indication.

It does seem strange that a player who was projected to start before the season finds himself on the fringes. One suspects Daley’s production would have been equal to if not better than Reed’s and giving him an extended run of games if probably the best way forward at this point.

Whether the Panthers will do that remains to be seen.

If the coaching staff thought anything of his season debut, Daley would still be in the starting lineup. Instead, he remains on the outside looking in and the situation would become untenable for the player if the organization opted to remain with Reed at left guard despite his struggles.

This is a situation worth keeping a close eye on in the coming weeks. And Daley’s future in Carolina probably depends on it.
