Head coach Matt Rhule has plenty to ponder after his first half-season with the Carolina Panthers. He will know far more about his roster now and what sort of improvements need to be made in their bid to become a postseason contender at the earliest possible opportunity.
The former Baylor man has adjusted well to life in the NFL. He came into the Carolina Panthers with a big reputation for turning around struggling college problems and Rhule seems to have them going in the right direction despite plenty of disruption during the offseason.
A good start? Maybe. But more will undoubtedly be needed.
The Panthers are currently sitting at 3-5 when it looked like they might become one of the league’s surprise packages in 2020. This might still be the case if they can cause some shocks against high-profile opposition and Carolina has played well with no expectations on their shoulders.
It’s when they’re favored that seems to be the issue. The Panthers lost the two games they were expected to win this season against the Bears and Falcons, so whether this is something a new-look roster is ready for at this stage is up for debate.
Here are three big problems that the Panthers need to fix both during the remainder of the season and beyond.
